Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon
In commemoration of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib’s birth centenary and his Homecoming Day, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon was inaugurated on January 10th, 2021. Since then, it has become an annual event of great significance, celebrating Dhaka City’s rich cultural heritage. More than just a race, it serves as a platform to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among the citizens of Bangladesh, particularly engaging the youth in embracing sports and fitness.
The organization of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon is spearheaded by the Bangladesh Army, in collaboration with the Army Sports Control Board, Trust Innovation Ltd, and Networld Bangladesh Ltd. Technical support is provided by the Bangladesh Athletic Federation and Bangladesh Olympic Association. Notably, the event is certified by the Association of International Marathon & Distance Races (AIMS).
Scheduled for February 16th, 2024, at 5:00 AM, the upcoming marathon will kick off from the International Convention City Bashundhara. Runners will navigate multiple laps along the 300-foot road, culminating back at the starting point. Along the route, several medical and hydration stations will be stationed, complemented by roaming ambulances and security personnel to ensure the safety of all participants.
The marathon will feature a Full Marathon category, attracting elite athletes from both domestic and international arenas. Additionally, there will be a Half Marathon event, catering to a wider range of participants.
